The following are the few remedies for Toothache which are taken without the prescription of dentist as natural remedies to prevent the pain until u reach the dentist for treatment.

1. Salt Water:

Salt helps to clean the area around the tooth & draws out the fluids which causing swelling & helps to reduce the toothache. Take 1 tbsp of salt & mix it well in a glass of warm water & see that salt has to be dissolved completely. Take this salt water into your mouth & Gargle it. Repeat the process as needed.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide:

Hydrogen peroxide is having a property of anti bacterial. It helps to kill the bacteria & gives relief from pain & discomfort. Take a little bit of hydrogen peroxide & Gargle it. If it tastes too horrid, you can gargle it by diluting with water.

3. Alcohol:

Swish a bit of alcohol like whiskey, scotch, brandy or vodka. As we know that strong mouth wash that contains alcohol will helps to prevent the problem. Soak a cotton ball in the hard liquor like brandy, whisky or vodka & apply it on the affected part of the tooth will helps to reduce the toothache.

4. Vanilla extract:

Vanilla extract contains small amount of alcohol which helps to remove the bacteria causing toothache. Drench a cotton ball in vanilla & hold it in a place or you a use cotton swab dipped in extract.

5. Tea Tree Oil:

It contains the anti inflammatory & antiseptic property which helps to stop the swelling from your gums & nerves and it penetrates deep down inside the tooth & kills the bacteria causing the toothache. Take a cotton swab & add few drops of tea tree oil in it. Place it on the problem spot.

Or you can try it by just adding few drops of Tea tree oil in a small glass of warm water & rinse your mouth with that water.

6. Apple cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial, anti inflammatory property which helps to prevent the toothache. Vinegar has acidic property which helps to kill the bacteria causing the toothache. Saturate a cotton ball with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) & apply it on the problem place. You can also try the regular household vinegar

7. Ginger:

It has anti bacterial property & prevents the swelling which helps to cure the toothache. Take a fresh piece of ginger & chew it in your mouth.

8. Garlic:

Garlic contains antibiotic property & other medicinal property which helps in slowing down the bacterial affects. Take a clove of garlic, smash it (either with salt or plain) & apply it on the inside cheek, where you have the problem or you can also try crush a clove of garlic & add some rock salt to it to make a fine paste & apply it on the affected part of the tooth to get the instant relief.

9. Peppermint leaves:

Peppermint has anti inflammatory components which helps to reduce swelling & soreness in the affected area & prevents the toothache naturally. Take a fresh peppermint leaves & chew it for a while or you can also hold the dried leaves in the place where you get the pain. Or you can try Peppermint tea by taking 1 tsp of dried peppermint leaves into a cup of boiling water, steep for 20 minutes. Allow the tea to sit for cooling, then swish it around in your mouth & Split it out. Repeat the process regularly.

10. Potato:

Potatoes have anti inflammatory property which helps to absorb the excess moisture & removes inflammation that causing the toothache. Take a fresh potato, cut if off in small piece & apply it on the place where the pain is coming. Or you can try by placing a mashed piece of potato with salt.

11. Lime:

Lemon contains citric acid which reduces the inflammation & reduces the inflammation & destroys bacteria causing toothache. Vitamin C in lemon helps as immune system to remove the bacteria & infection naturally. Take a lime, cut it into slices & apply in on the place where the pain the coming, bite it to release some juice.

12. Onion:

Onions have antiseptic & anti microbial properties by which the toothache & its pain can be controlled. Take fresh onions & cut it into slices, chew the piece of onion for few minutes if not able to chew then hold it inside your mouth & bite it to get the juice to cure the pain & problem.

13. Plantain:

Plantain leaves helps to prevent the toothache with its natural medical properties. Take fresh plantains leaves & chew it in your mouth. Once the leaf is macerated, apply it on the problem area & hold it to cure the pain.

14. Cucumber:

Cucumber has anti oxidant property which helps to reduce the toothache & soothing property which helps to reduce the pain. Take a fresh piece of cucumber & hold it on the sore area. If it is refrigerated, apply it on the problem area as it helps as a soothing agent or if you teeth are sensitive to cold, wait for few minutes to bring it to room temperature. Or you can also try by mashing it with salt & place it on sore throat.

15. Cayenne Pepper:

Cayenne pepper contains a natural pain reliever called Capsaicin, which helps to get the relief from the pain & reduces the toothache. Take few cayenne peppers & make it like a paste by adding some water to it. Apply in on the problem area. Or you can try by taking the powder of cayenne pepper & ginger in equal quantity & make it like a paste by adding apple cider vinegar in it. Apply it on the affected part of the tooth.

16. Black Pepper:

Pepper contains anti bacterial as well as anti inflammatory property which helps to get relief from the toothache. Take few black peppers & make it like a fine paste by adding some water to it. Apply this paste on the problem area & hold it for about few minutes.

17. Baking Soda:

Baking soda has natural property to heal from the toothache & its pain. Take a cotton swab & moisten it in water. Now dip that swab in the baking soda, make sure that the swab has absorbed the soda & place it on the affected area. Or you can use it like a mouth wash by mixing a tbsp of baking soda in a small glass of Luke warm to warm water (depending on your wish). Swish the mixture in your mouth.

18. Cloves:

Cloves have anti inflammatory, anti bacterial (allicin), anti oxidant & anesthetic property which helps to cure the toothache. Take a clove & hold it on the affected area to get rid of the pain. You can also bite it to get the juice from it.  Make fine paste with ground cloves & water or with ground cloves & olive oil, place it on the affected area.

19. Lipton Tea:

Take a wet Lipton tea bag & hold it on the affected area of the tooth. The tannins in the tea will help to reduce the swelling along with some relief to you from the pain. Or you can try a cold wet tea bag by putting it in cold water for few minutes before applying unless your tooth is sensitive to the cold.

20. Ice Pack:

Cover the ice cubes in a towel or some other cotton cloth & hold it on your cheek where the problem is exactly, this treatment will help to numb things. If it doesn’t work go for the opposite one i.e., apply hot compress on the affected part of the cheek.

21. Pain Killer:

Pain killers will help to get the instant relief from the pain. Take Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen to get effective relief from the minor toothaches. But make sure to take in the recommended dosage as directed by the doctor or printed on package. Over dosage will leads to side effects.

22. Wheatgrass Juice:

Wheatgrass naturally have antibacterial property which helps to heel the toothache by giving relief from the pain & helps to get rid of the tooth decay problem. Extract the juice of wheatgrass by using blender or mixture grinder & use this juice as a mouth wash. The juice when used will help to extract the toxins from the gums & reduces the growth of bacteria and at last controls the toothache. If you wish you can also chew the wheat grass for better results.

23. Guava:

Fresh guava leaves are oldest remedy to get rid of the toothache problem. It eliminates the toothache pain, healing gums & mouth sores. The leaves contain powerful anti bacterial property which protects the teeth & gums. Simply chew one or two leaves of guava until the juice of the leaves comes out & start doing its action on the affected part of tooth. Or you can try putting 5-6 leaves in a glass of water & boil it for few minutes. Once the solution becomes warm & adds salt & use this mixture as a mouth wash. If it is not available you can replace these leaves with raw spinach leaves.

24. Salt & Pepper:

Pepper is an anti bacterial component & salt by its natural property reduces the swelling & minerals in it can aid for healing. Take a pepper & salt in equal proportions i.e., 1/4 teaspoons. Add few drops of water to make it like a fine paste. Apply this paste on the affected part of the tooth & allow it to sit for few minutes.

25. Lemon:

Squeeze the lemon juice & apply it on the affected part of your tooth either directly or with the help of cotton ball on the toothache every 10 minutes until the juice runs out. Lemon contains pain reliever & has anti inflammatory & critic acid which helps to prevent the toothache.

26. Avocado:

Avocado has antioxidant property to cure the toothache. Take avocado seeds in drain or toasted form & then blend it to make it fine powder. After that apply avocado seeds powder to the tooth where it is decayed & then cover it with cotton (Not recommended for pregnant women).

27. Asafoetida:

Asafoetida destroys the bacteria causing the toothache & gives instant relief from the pain. Take a pinch of powdered asafetida & add it to lemon juice. Mix it well & slightly warm it. Now apply it on the affected part of the tooth with the help of cotton ball. You can also take asafetida fried in clarified butter & apply it on the affected part of the tooth to get instant relief.

28. Bay Berry:

Take a few Bay Berry bark & make it like a paste by mixing it with vinegar. Apply this paste on the affected & hurting tooth to get the instant relief from the pain. You can also make your gums strong by applying this herbal paste on it.

29. Oils:

Oils have a soothing property & inflammatory property to get healed from toothache when it is applied & massaged gently on the affected tooth. Take few drops of oils like sunflower oil, sesame oil, oregano oil, nutmeg oil, clove oil & apply in the affected part either by swish it or with the help of the cotton ball.

30. Turmeric:

Turmeric has anti septic & anti bacterial property which helps to heal the pain & toothache. Mix a tsp of turmeric powder with purified water & make it like a fine paste. Apply this paste on the affected part of tooth with the help of the cotton ball, if you want you can add honey to it. or you can try by just ingesting the raw turmeric or take its supplements.

31. Myrrh:

Myrrh contains the astringent effects which helps to inflammation & kills the bacteria to prevent the pain & toothache. Simmer 1 tsp of powdered myrrh in 2 cups of water for about 30 minutes. Strain it & let it cool for few minutes. Rinse it off with 1 tsp of solution in a half cup of water for 5-6 times a day.

32. Chewing Gum:

If your teeth are broken or have lost a filling, you can get the relief from pain by covering the exposed part with the softened chewing gum until you went to dentist to repair the tooth. It’s better to avoid chewing anything with that tooth until you repaired it with the dentist.

33. Acupressure Technique:

Simple techniques just do it with your thumb, press the point on the back of your other hand where the base of your thumb & index finger meet. Apply pressure on it for about 2 minutes. This action helps the release of endorphins; the brains feel good hormones. Or you can massage the same place with ice to get relief from the pain of toothache. (Not recommended for pregnant women).

Tips to Prevent Toothache:

Follow these tips to reduce and prevent the toothache.
  1. Gently brush your teeth & flossing, which helps to bring some relief.
  2. Don’t use Aspirin as it is an acid when once it is placed on gums or teeth will cause corrosion on teeth & acid burns on your gums.
  3. If the side of your face is in severe pain it would be the symptoms of sinus infection or allergy that causes the sinus. Then take decongestant or hottest shower settings will help to clear your sinus cavities.
    Consult the dentist as early as possible.
  4. Try to take soft food diet until you get the relief from the pain.
  5. Clean your teeth / mouth thoroughly twice a day. Brush regularly with a fluoride containing tooth paste.
  6. Apply clove oil on the affected part of tooth & rub it several times daily until the ache goes away. But make sure to rub the area gently.
  7. Make a cup of tea with tea bags & hold the tea bags on the affected area. The tannins that are naturally in tea leaves can help numb things.
  8. If you have a hole or not have any decay in your tooth, just take an orange flavored baby aspirin & put it directly around the tooth or in the decayed area. This will also help to prevent the pain as it is a pain killer (consult the dentist before using it).
  9. Rinse your mouth with some Luke warm water after taking some food. Make sure that the water goes between the spaces of your teeth before splitting it out.
  10. Elevate your head while you’re sleeping by using some extra few pillows.
  11. If you find a web of skin between your thumb & forefinger, below which you find a v-shaped area where the bones meet. Rub a piece of ice in that area for about 5-10 minutes. You will get the instant relief.
  12. The most common reason for toothache due to tooth decay is excessive sugar intake, bad diet or even taking too many sodas. So, avoid this kind of food in your diet.
  13. Forget the food which is too hot or too cold, which increases the toothache.
  14. Avoid stress & get relaxed by resting properly.
  15. Visit your dentist once in 6 months & replace your brush once in 3 months.
  16. Avoid drinking alcohol & smoking habits.
  17. Use Listerine, an antiseptic mouthwash regularly.
  18. Apply Vicks Vaporub on the jaw area where the tooth is infected from outside to get relief from the pain.
